Smith: The game is the big thing

It’s retro week and I’m going to get the moustache going but I didn’t want to show it too early by shaving the rest of my face. It takes me a little bit longer to grow it out and I’ve been growing mine for four weeks now whereas a lot of other guys just started earlier this week.Smith_100814.jpg

I’ve seen some good ones. Calixte has got a thick one, I like that one a lot. Phillips has got those handlebars. I just saw that Arjei cut a good one in today and Edwin Harrison has also got a good one going. Everybody’s being creative. It’s a good competition and I’ve some funny moustaches. Every time I see Calixte, it tickles my stomach.

Also as part of retro, our equipment managers came up with some pretty good retro uniforms this year and we like them. They say when you look good, you play good. But we’re just focused on the game. It’s nice that it’s retro week but our main motivation is to win the game

We know better than to underestimate the Eskimos. Their record doesn’t show how good they are as a team. These guys come out to play hard every game and they’ve got a lot of talent — they have talented receivers, Ricky Ray is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. They have a very good offence so we’re not underestimating them at all.

Ricky Ray and I both went to Sacramento State. He was there before I was there but when I would look through the media guides, you’d see that he had a ton of records there. It’s always good going up against him and we can both represent Sacramento State.

We have a good game plan, we know we have to come out and play hard and try to come away with a victory.

We know it’s a tight race in the West and we’re trying to separate ourselves from everybody else. That’s our motivation this week, to get the victory so that we can keep sole possession of first place.
