I’m not a fortune-teller, but I think we’re in a good position right now. We always have a lot of things we still have to work on to get better but right now, I think we’re definitely right where we want to be.
This year, I’ve moved back to linebacker and, you know what? I have no problem with it. I just love to play and to be out there on the field. I still have to be ready. If somebody goes down, I still have to be able to show that card that I can play other positions. So it’s no big deal to me — I’m just excited to be playing with this group of guys.
The SAM linebacker is just like an extra halfback anyway because you’re still covering the extra receiver in the slot, so it’s not that big of a deal. I accept the challenge and I’ll always go out there ready to play ball.
With the other linebackers, Juwan and Malik, I told those guys at the beginning of the year that we were going to be the best linebacking corps in this league and I think right now, we have a good notch on the competition around the league. If we keep shooting towards that goal, we’ll be OK.
As for Sunday’s game against Edmonton? Man, it’s like this — those guys get played to play football and their record doesn’t truly describe what kind of team they are. They’re a good football team. They have a great quarterback, they have a great group of receivers and they have a nice defence. So we can’t get caught up looking at their record because when you do that, you’re setting yourself up.
Ricky Ray amazes me every time I see him play because he’s resilient and when he comes out, he slings that ball. That’s one thing you have to admire about a guy like that. He’s tough, he’s gritty and he’s going to throw the ball and he’s going to make a play. He’s definitely a guy — just like we have with Hank — who you want on the field when the game’s on the line.
We know that they can play football just as well as they know we can play and we’re going to go out there and have a good game on Sunday.
I’d like to end with First Chronicles, Chapter 10, Verse 4. It’s the player of Jabez — Lord bless me, enlarge my territory, keep me from evil and keep me from temptation and bless those around me.
