Stamps sign quarterback, defensive lineman

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that quarterback Daryll Clark and non-import defensive lineman Mike Stadnyk have signed contracts with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
 
Hufnagel also announced that non-import offensive lineman Godfrey Ellis and quarterback Cody Pickett were released. Ellis was drafted in the second round (10th overall) of the 2005 CFL Canadian Draft and dressed for 72 contests with the Red and White. Pickett signed with Calgary on June 15, 2010.
 
Clark joins the Stamps following a brief stint with the Washington Redskins. He played four years at Penn State and was the Nittany Lions’ starter for his final two seasons. He was named the Big Ten’s all-conference quarterback in 2009 after completing 60.9 per cent of his passes (232 for 381) and throwing for 3,003 yards and a school-record 24 touchdowns. He also rushed for 211 yards and seven majors. He was named co-winner of the 2009 Chicago Tribune Silver Football as the most valuable player in the Big Ten. He was also all-Big Ten in 2008 when he threw for 2,592 yards and 19 touchdowns and ran for 282 yards and 10 majors. He is the Nittany Lions’ career leader with 43 touchdown passes. After college, Clark signed as an undrafted free agent with Washington.
 
Stadnyk was drafted in the second round (14th overall) by Saskatchewan in 2008 and spent the 2009 season with the Roughriders. He played six games and compiled one tackle for loss and three special-teams tackles. Stadnyk played four seasons for the Montana Grizzlies and earned honourable mention Big Sky Conference honours in 2007 and 2008. Over his career at Montana, he recorded 127 combined solo and assisted tackles, including 19 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks. He recovered three fumbles and forced two fumbles.
