Lysack: Another milestone against Winnipeg

I didn’t realize it, but tonight was my 100th career game with the Stampeders and last year I played my 100th game overall in the CFL against the Bombers also.

It’s weird because my first career interception was against Winnipeg, and I think my most Lysack_100707.jpgtackles I’ve ever had was also against Winnipeg. There are all these little things I’ve had against Winnipeg so, I don’t  know, maybe it’s because I’m from there, so I always want to put it back on them or something, I don’t know what it is.

But either way, I’m just happy that we won. I don’t really care what game it is. I was telling people before the game that all it those milestones are is more fuel or fire for the young guys to play with, me being an old man.

As for tonight, well, you know, to tell you the truth if we’re going to be a great team, there’s going to be games when we blow people out, but to be a championship (team) is when you win games like that — games when it is a tight game, and there’s a lot going on, and the other team is playing well and gives you a grind right to the last minute. So when we can do that and come together and still win, that’s the sign of a championship team to me, so I was proud of the guys.

We’re 4-1 so far, I think we’re good, but I think we can be better. That’s the scary part. There’s no doubt we’re playing well and we’re coming together as a group, but we’re continuing to strive to be better and once we do that, and once we hit full stride we’re going to be pretty scary.

You talk about being 4-1 and I always think early in the season, your record early in the year is always crazy because you could be 3-2 or 4-1 and it’s a massive difference, whereas later in the season a win is still a big win but it doesn’t show as much in the standings. It’s key to get the wins at this point to push yourself ahead, especially to keep up with Saskatchewan. They obviously won today, so we gotta keep going.

Of course, there was Ken-Yon coming back tonight. You know what? I told him before the game – it’s funny, every game that I’ve played with him, me and him do a little thing before the game where we give each other a hug and we talk about what we’re going to do in the game and all of last year while he was out, we still did it.

He came up to me and made a point of still doing it, so, I told him though it wasn’t the same without him out there the whole year. So to see him back out there, I was just excited to see – he’s a true teammate and a good friend and for him to get that touchdown right off the hop and show everybody he’s back – I started singing that song, I was singing ‘Welcome Back’ over and over on the side lines. He’s a dominant player, and it helps us out that much more to have him back.
