After the Toronto game, I was happy to come back and to play well no matter what, never mind to be the CFL player of the week. After losing in Toronto, we came back and won and we won big against somebody in our division, so that was good, period.
You can ask Arjei or anybody else, I was hard on myself after the Toronto game after having the two drops. But I just came back the next week and I was doing some catching drills and went back to the basics. I’m still very close with Arjei because we were together a year-and-a-half in Winnipeg before we came here.
Speaking of Winnipeg, that’s who we’re playing this week and I know some are going to make a big deal out of it. But it’s just another game. If you look at the roster compared to the years I was there, I’m pretty sure there’s more new people than old people who were there when I was. So like I said, it’s just another team for me. It’s a new coaching staff and a new organization. This is just like we were playing Montreal because I know a few people on Montreal’s team, too.
The trade happened last year so it’s not as big a deal as it would have been if we played them just a couple of weeks after they traded me. There would have been a lot more pressure on me then.
We know this is going to be a tough game. Their defence is going to go out there and try to do their job and I’ll go out there and do mine, that’s all I can do. They are No. 1 or No. 2 in a lot of categories in the defensive stats. But Cover 2 is Cover 2 and Cover 1 is Cover 1, it’s all about beating your man.
For the team, we’re in a pretty good spot. We’re No. 1 in our division, but we’ve still got a lot to get better on. We’re not perfect by any stretch.
The atmosphere for last week’s game against Saskatchewan was great. It was rowdy and loud and the weather was great. It was a great day for football all around. We’re hoping for more of the same this week.
