O’Neill: Holding ourselves accountable

After Saturday’s game against Saskatchewan, our offensive captain Henry Burris gave the game ball to the offensive line. It was pretty nice for all of us to get recognized like that after a big win. We had a good week of practice, so it was a good feeling.ONeill_100728.jpg

We’re definitely accountable to one another and everyone makes sure we’re all working hard and that we’ve got our assignments straight. When we hold each other accountable, I think that’s all we need.

We were able to run the ball on Saturday, which is always nice, against a tough defence that gives a lot of different looks. We had a good week of practice and it came through on the field. We had a pretty good idea what we were going to be facing. Like I said, we had a really good week of practice so when we broke the huddle, we had a pretty good idea what was going to happen.

People asked questions about the offensive line going into the season because of some of the changes that had to be made because of retirements and guys going to the NFL, but it’s a good atmosphere in the room.

Everyone’s working hard and we all get along great. It feels good coming to work every day, getting on the field and working hard. We’re getting our work done in the film room and we’re all preparing hard and helping each other. It’s been really good.

One of the new guys on the team is Dan Comiskey. When I was drafted by Edmonton, he was there and he was one of the guys I looked up to and the guy I followed. When I heard he was coming here, I was really excited. He’s a great player and a great leader.

As for the team, next up, we have Winnipeg. They’re a good team and they’ve got a lot of good guys up front, so we’ve got our work cut out for us. We have to have a good week of practice and then come out and execute our assignments.
