Burris: This will be be an intense game

Saturday’s game against the Roughriders is going to be very intense because they’re coming in 3-0 and we’re coming in 2-1.

I think both teams are very comparable in many different ways. They have a very good team we’re trying to get where they are. They are the defending Western champions and they are the hunted now. We’re a team that’s trying to get where they are. We’re trying to achieve some of things they achieved last year.Burris_100712.jpg

One thing about a Calgary-Saskatchewan game, even without looking at the schedule, you can feel the energy. This is a rivalry. To me, this is like OU-Texas, Florida-Florida State . . . this is the big one up here. To me, this is the biggest rivalry in football and it’s something we look forward to each and every year.

We know it’s going to be a tough game, but we’re focused and we’re ready to go. We’ve been busting our butts in practice all week. We know we have to be focused on what we need to go and go out and give it our best shot and see what happens.

What happened last year against Saskatchewan has no bearing on this week’s game. It’s two different teams and so much has changed since then. Personally? I don’t remember what happened last year.

I’ve watched film from those games and looked at some of the defensive things they’re able to do but they have different personnel and they’re switching up some of the looks they’re giving now. They show you some wonky looks you have to prepare for so that when you get those looks, you can make the right adjustments.

It’s going to be a game of cat-and-mouse and a game of chess and we’re just making sure we’re ready to go because this is a brand new year and all that matters is what happens this year. There are so many guys in this locker-room who have no idea what the series was last year. All they know is that we’re playing the team that won the West last year and this is where it all starts.

We’re ready, even though we had the loss last week. It was a tough loss but it was probably the best dose of medicine for us because it allowed us to focus in on things we haven’t done as well and that will make us a better team come this Saturday.
