Few days on the Canadian Football League calendar are more important than the day of the Canadian draft. In 2010, that day is Sunday, May 2.
The line about Canadian talent being key to success in the CFL has become a cliche but that’s only because there’s so much truth to the statement. The Stampeders suffered some losses in Canadian content during this off-season but they have already some measures to fill those gaps.
Most notably, they have signed veteran offensive linemen John Comiskey (a former Stampeders draft pick by the way) and Matt Sheridan and adding Canadian university standouts Osie Ukwuoma and Mike Cornell.
The 2010 draft will be the next step in that process. The Stamps have fared well on draft day over the years as now fewer than 15 members of the current roster were originally selected by Calgary.
The 2005 draft was particularly fruitful as it produced four players — Comiskey, receiver Brett Ralph and defensive lineman Miguel Robede and offensive lineman Godfrey Ellis.
