Insider: Ongoing legacy

What is the Ongoing Legacy?

1945: The invention of Horsepower…

Sixty-five years ago, a team took the field for the first time, and a legacy was born…

Join the Calgary Stampeders in 2010 as we celebrate two great milestones in our proud franchise — the 65th anniversary of the Stampeders, and the 50th anniversary of McMahon Stadium. Through it all, the celebration of the team’s history will be front and centre as we recount stories of some key figures and moments of our proud past.

Of course, a big part of our celebration involves you, the fans!doug_flutie8a.jpg

All year long we will revisit some of the proud moments that include an undefeated season, the creation of the Grey Cup festival and a horse in a hotel lobby. We will tell stories of men named Sugarfoot, Thumper, Peewee and Sponge. We’ll celebrate the construction of Our House — McMahon Stadium — whille paying homage to our old house of Mewata Stadium. And the rise of legends such as Lunsford, Helton, Flutie, Harrison and Burden (among many) who passed the torch to the players of today.

Perhaps even more important to the Ongoing Legacy is the celebration of you, the fans. And so throughout this momentous year, we want to hear from you and have you take part in shaping what it means to be a Calgary Stampeder. Throughout the season, we will be asking you to share some of your memories — from on the field and off, older and more recent — that make the Red and White a special part of your life. There will be contests and giveaways, a bringing back of our vintage ‘buckin’ horse’ logo as s secondary mark, the launch of a new history section on our website, vignettes, ceremonies and traditions at our games, and much more.

It will be an overall celebration of the proud history of our past, the passion of our present and laying the foundation for our future.

Stay tuned throughout the year for more information on these great initiatives.
