Insider: A look at 2010 at McMahon Stadium

The Canadian Football League unveiled its 2010 schedule today and things are looking great for Stamps fans. Game days at McMahon Stadium are sure to be as exciting as ever with many of the most popular promotions returning this season. As well, several new initiatives and the celebration of old traditions will be sure to entertain the CFL’s best fans.

“The 2010 CFL Schedule offers Stamps fans great opportunities to see their team,” said Stampeders’ president/COO Lyle Bauer. “With the traditional rivalries in the West to the hosting of revamped East Division teams, 2010 will be a great year to be wearing Red and White.”

Got any plans for Fathers Day? Bring dad to McMahon Stadium and create lasting family memories as Calgary plays host to Saskatchewan on June 20 at 1 p.m. Red and White faithful will get their first look at the 2010 edition of the Stamps in preseason action. The game will be the first meeting between the two clubs since the Roughriders defeated the Stamps 27-17 in last year’s Western Final.

The Stamps next home date has Saskatchewan coming to town for the first regular-season meeting between the two clubs. The Stamps last hosted Saskatchewan in a memorable 44-44 overtime tie on Oct. 17, 2009.vs_Saskcrop.jpg

Do you remember where you were Aug. 15, 1960? Were you watching the Stamps take the field at McMahon Stadium for the first time ever? The Stamps will host the Edmonton Eskimos on Aug. 15 in what is the official 50th anniversary of football at McMahon. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

“In addition to an exciting schedule we are also looking forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of McMahon Stadium and many other great moments in Stampeders history,” said Bauer.

The Stamps face the defending Grey Cup champions in back-to-back weeks beginning in Calgary on Oct. 1 and wrapping up with a Thanksgiving Day meeting on Oct. 11 in Montreal.

The BC Lions and head coach/general manager Wally Buono come to town twice in the fall, first on Sept. 25 and then again on Oct. 22. The Stamps will face the Lions four times during the regular season in what is sure to be a crucial series in the West Division standings.
