Defensive lineman Charleston Hughes wasted absolutely no time making an impact after rejoining the Stampeders a month ago.
Hughes has played three games since returning to Calgary after his time at training camp with the National Football League’s Philadelphia Eagles and has recorded two sacks in each of them. The previous Stampeders player to record three multiple-sack games over an entire season, never mind in three straight contests, was DeWayne Patterson all the way back in 1997.
In those three games, Hughes has already surpassed Calgary’s 2008 team-leading total of five, which was shared by Hughes, Mike Labinjo and Miguel Robede as part of a very balanced Stampeders defence.
Hughes is the second Calgary player to record at least one sack in three straight games this season, joining Odell Willis, who had a four-game streak in Weeks 2 through 5. Here is a list of sack streaks (minimum of three games) by the Stampeders in the past five seasons.
Player | Year | Streak |
Odell Willis | 2009 | 4 |
Charleston Hughes | 2009 | 3* |
Cornelius Anthony | 2007 | 4 |
Tearrius George | 2007 | 4 |
