WARM-UP

A record crowd of 40,729 fans are at McMahon Stadium today for the 44th edition of the Labour Day Classic. The Stampeders can claim a share of first place in the West Division along with Edmonton and Saskatchewan by defeating the Eskimos in the annual grudge match.

Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m. Along with this live blog, there’ll be a live Twitter feed during the game which you can follow at StampsConnect.

First quarter

  • Stamps get the ball first but they go two and out on their first drive
  • Edmonton gets one first down on its first drive but then has to punt the ball away
  • Calgary’s second drive starts at midfield
  • Kelly Malveaux intercepts a Henry Burris pass
  • A great catch is made by Jeremaine Copeland to get the Stamps to the Edmonton 11-yard line. The play covers 33 yards.
  • Sandro DeAngelis kicks a 10-yard field goal to give the Stampeders a 3-0 lead
  • The first quarter ends with Calgary hanging on to a 3-0 advantage

Second quarter

  • Nice run after the catch nets Ryan Thelwell a 26-yard gain
  • Nik Lewis makes a catch in a 96th consecutive game, extending his own club record
  • Greg Peach picks up an easy sack when Henry Burris has to fall on the loose ball after failing to get a handle on the snap
  • The Esks’ Maurice Mann catches a ball on a crossing route and races away for a 31-yard gain
  • In his first game for the Stampeders, ex-Eskimo Jim Davis tackles Ricky Ray to halt an Edmonton drive
  • Noel Prefontaine misses on a field goal attempt and the Eskimos settle for a single point that cuts the Calgary lead to 3-1
  • Stamps gamble on third-and-one and get the job done on a Burris keeper
  • Copeland makes his second big play of the game. This time, it’s a 30-yard reception
  • Joffrey Reynolds runs it in from the one-yard line for the first major of the game
  • Extra point by Sandro DeAngelis makes it 10-1
  • The scoring drive covered 68 yards on eight plays
  • John Eubanks forces a fumble by Edmonton’s Arkee Whitlock. Dwight Anderson with the recovery
  • Jon Cornish runs the ball in from 28 yards out for a second Calgary major on the day
  • The extra point by DeAngelis makes it 17-1 for the Red and White
  • Noel Prefontaine misses a field goal try on the final play of the first half and the Esks get only a single
  • After 30 minutes, it’s 17-2 for Calgary

Third quarter

  • Stamps get the ball to start second half but can’t get any further than the Edmonton 54
  • On Calgary’s second possession, they score a third touchdown on the day. Henry Burris finds Jeremaine Copeland in the end-zone from 21 yards out for the score.
  • The extra point makes it 24-2 for the Stamps
  • Joffrey Reynolds has passed the 100 mark in yards from scrimmage on the day
  • Eskimos concede a safety as Stamps extend the lead 26-2
  • The third quarter ends with the Stamps marching and Calgary holding that 26-2 lead

Fourth quarter

  • If the Stamps can hang on, they’ll create a three-way tie atop the West Division between themselves, the Eskimos and the Roughriders
  • Sandro DeAngelis kicks a 44-yard field goal to extend the hosts’ lead to 29-2
  • Calgary’s Titus Ryan runs a punt back all the way for a touchdown, but the play is wiped out by an illegal block penalty
  • Ricky Ray hits Maurice Mann with less than three minutes to go in the game to give the Eskimos their first touchdown
  • The try for a two-point covert is no good
  • Joffrey Reynolds surpasses the 100-yard mark for rushing on the day
  • DeAngelis adds a third field goal in the final minute to make it 32-8
