Not even the most hardcore Alouettes supporter believes Wednesday night’s result totally evened the score between the Larks and the Stampeders as far as the 2008 Grey Cup game is concerned.
That said, Montreal did pull back to even terms with the Stamps in a very different way thanks to a 40-27 victory on Canada Day.
Remarkably, after 59 all-time meetings in the regular season, the Stampeders and Alouettes now have identical records — 29-29-1.
Almost as amazing is that in 59 meetings over 55 years since the first head-to-head clash in 1954, the clubs are separated by two measly points, with Calgary holding a 1,391 to 1,389 edge. That’s a difference of 0.144 per cent for those of you scoring at home.
Obviously, it’s the closest all-time series the Stamps have with any CFL rival. Here’s how the Red and White stacks up against the rest of the league:
Saskatchewan +27 (111-84-8)
Hamilton +19 (47-28-0)
BC Lions +18 (89-71-5)
Ottawa +13 (36-23-0)
U.S. teams +13 (14-1-0)
Winnipeg +5 (93-88-0)
Toronto +2 (38-36-1)
Montreal 0 (29-29-0)
Edmonton -45 (75-120-3)
