WARM-UP

The 2009 season kicks off tonight with a Grey Cup rematch. This time, Calgary is the site of the contest as the Stampeders entertain the Montreal Alouettes. It’s the first of three straight games against Eastern opponents for the Stamps, who will play in Winnipeg on July 10 and will be back at McMcMahon on July 17 to host the Toronto Argonauts.

Scratches for the Stamps are LB Matt Grootegoed, DB J.R. Ruffin, REC Ken-Yon Rambo and DL Odell Willis.

FIRST QUARTER

  • Prior ro kickoff, the Stamps unveiled banners to commemorate all six of their Grey Cup titles
  • Stamps will kick off to open the game
  • Two plays into the opening drive, Als have the ball in Stampeders territory
  • Anthony Calvillo to Kerry Watkins for 37 yards and a touchdown
  • The first scoring drive was five plays for 81 yards

SECOND QUARTER

  • Titus Ryan runs the kickoff back 104 yards for a Stamps touchdown
  • It’s the first Stamps kickoff return major since J.R. Ruffin did it on Sept. 8, 2006
  • Wes Lysack blocks a punt, Stamps’ Dwight Anderson recover at the Montreal 31
  • Henry Burris to Jeremaine Copeland on a four-yard touchdown pass
  • Convert by DeAngelis is good, Montreal lead is cut to 20-14
  • A 32-yard field goal by Duval is good, Alouettes lead by nine

  • A 48-yard punt return sets up a 15-yard field goal by Duval as Alouettes now lead 27-14
  • Sandro DeAngelis nails 34-yard field goal on last play on second quarter

THIRD QUARTER

  • Stamps get ball to open second half
  • Henry Burris scores on a keeper, extra point is good
  • Montreal’s lead down to 27-24
  • Stamps get an interception when Brandon Browner tips the ball up in the air and it falls into the arms of Milton Collins
  • DeAngelis field goal try is good from 41 yards
  • We have a tie game — Stamps 27 Alouettes 27
  • Just announced: it’s a sellout crowd of 35,650
  • Quarter’s over, score tied at 27

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Duval with a 13-yard field goal as Als regain lead, 30-27
  • John Bowman sacks Henry Burris and forces Stamps to punt
  • Duval kicks yet another field goal, this time from 37 yards out
  • Promising Stamps drive ends when Henry Burris is interecepted in the end zone by Mark Estelle
  • Stamps rookie Tristan Black blocks a punt, Calgary takes the ball at Mtl 23
  • Montreal’s Chip Cox returns a Burris fumble recovery all the way for a touchdown and a 39-27 Alouettes lead
  • Als try for two and fail
