Running back Joffrey Reynolds and defensive tackle Eddie Freeman were rewarded with game balls a day after Friday’s 28-18 win over the BC Lions.
Coach Huff prefers not to award game balls immediately after the game, opting instead to do the honours after the staff has had a chance pick apart game film.
In the wake of this key victory, Reynolds earned the offensive nod. He rushed for 125 yards on 23 carries and gained some tough yards on solo efforts and second efforts. Coach Huff admitted Reynolds had a slow start to camp because of the addition of outside zone runs to Calgary’s offence. But Reynolds caught on and it is thriving. Not only did he run the ball well Friday, but Reynolds did a nice job in pass protection and caught a couple of passes.
Freeman was a disruptive force all night against the Lions, as he collapsed the pocket and was strong against the run. He finished with four tackles, a sack and was an anchor as Calgary’s defence was beset by injuries. Freeman joined the Stamps late last season and showed good signs but has taken his game to a new level early in 2008.
