Some might have been surprised to see offensive tackle Jermese Jones cut Sunday morning by the Stamps (along with defensive back Chijioke Onyenegecha), but those who attended training camp and Friday’s pre-season game against Edmonton understand the decision.
Jones struggled in the first week of camp and then took a few days off. By the time he was ready to go, it was evident that fellow imports Antonio Hall and Ben Archibald had surpassed him on the depth chart at left tackle.
The Stamps will start one import on the o-line and they feel Hall and Archibald are both legitimate options. Hall has the advantage of versatility (he plays four positions) but the team is simply worried about the best candidate to protect Henry Burris’ blindside. This race is close and won’t be settled until after Thursday’s road pre-season game against the BC Lions.
