Pro path

Begelton originally signed with the Stampeders on May 17, 2017, and he was released on June 17, 2017. He rejoined the team on July 18, 2017, and remained with the club until Jan. 2, 2020, when he was released to pursue an opportunity in the National Football League. Begelton signed with the Green Bay Packers on Jan. 6, 2020, and was active for one game during the 2020 season. He was released by the Packers on Aug. 31, 2021. Prior to first signing with Calgary, Begelton attended rookie mini-camp with the Atlanta Falcons in 2016. He also had a tryout with the then-Oakland Raiders in 2016.

 

2022

(Calgary) Begelton started all 18 regular-season games for the Stampeders and led the team with 85 receptions. He amassed a total of 957 yards on those catches and led Calgary with 27 receptions that converted second downs. Begelton had six touchdowns and also carried the ball four times for 42 yards. His performance led to him being voted as a CFLPA all-star. He had two receiving touchdowns against Edmonton in the Labour Day Classic and had a season-best 112 receiving yards against the Elks five days later in the traditional Labour Day rematch. Begelton’s season high in receptions came in Week 19 against Hamilton as he hauled in nine passes. Begelton was a starter in the Western Semi-Final against BC and he recorded seven catches for 78 yards and one punt return for 13 yards.

 

2021

(Calgary) Begelton attended training camp with the Green Bay Packers. He signed with the Stampeders on Nov. 1 and made his season debut in Week 15 at BC. In two regular-season games, he had nine catches for 133 yards and one touchdown, one carry for 21 yards and two punt returns for 31 yards. Begelton also started the Western Semi-Final and had five receptions for 105 yards.

 

2019

(Calgary) Begelton earned the Stamps’ nomination for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award and was named a division and CFL all-star after becoming just the fifth player in franchise history to record at least 100 catches in a season. He finished the regular season second in the league with 102 receptions and third in both receiving yards (1,444) and receiving touchdowns (10). Begelton also had four carries for 38 yards and one score. He had at least three catches in all 17 games he played and had five 100-yard games as well as three other contests in which he amassed at least 90 receiving yards. Begelton was twice honoured as a CFL player of the week including for an Aug. 17 game against Montreal in which he recorded eight catches for 173 yards and four touchdowns. He played in the Western Semi-Final and had two catches for 24 yards and a touchdown in addition to one carry for one yard and a touchdown.

 

2018

(Calgary) Begelton started seven regular-season games and established career highs with 25 catches for 488 yards. He was named a CFL player of the week in Week 14 after making five receptions for 150 yards including a 99-yard catch-and-run touchdown that was the longest reception of his career. Begelton also returned one kickoff for 21 yards. He suffered a season-ending arm injury in a Week 16 game against Toronto.

 

2017

(Calgary) Begelton played nine games, including making five starts, and had 22 receptions for 304 yards and one touchdown as well as one defensive tackle and two special-teams tackles. He made his CFL debut in Week 7 at Toronto and caught his first CFL touchdown in Game 12 against BC.

College

Begelton played 46 games over four seasons (2012-15) at Lamar University. He graduated as the Cardinals’ all-time leader in catches (227) and yards (2,435) and was second in touchdown receptions with 20. Begelton was first-team all-Southland Conference in 2015 and a second-team selection in both 2013 and 2014. He set a school single-season record with 82 catches in 2013 and a single-game record with 18 catches in a 2013 victory over Stephen F. Austin.

 

Personal

Begelton was a first-team district all-star in his senior season at West Brook High School in Beaumont, Tex., after making 52 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. He was a chemical engineering major at Lamar.
