Stamps Finish Preseason Perfect

The Calgary Stampeders controlled from start to finish on Saturday night at McMahon Stadium as they defeated the Edmonton Elks 31-4 to wrap up the preseason 2-0.

Logan Bonner had two touchdowns and Daylen Baldwin added another in the victory.

The Stampeders got out to a quick start on Saturday night as Vernon Adams Jr. hit Dominique Rhymes for 44 yards to the Elks 12 yardline. Just three plays later Logan Bonner plunged into the endzone from one-yard out to make the score 7-0 following a Rene Paredes extra point.

Calgary’s defence came out flying their first time on the field as Jaydon Grant stuffed an Elks third down gamble giving the ball right back to the Stampeders. The drive ended in a punt rouge giving the Stamps an 8-0 lead. 

Adams Jr. led another lethal drive just before the end of the quarter as the offence drove down the field eventually punching in another short touchdown run from Bonner. The score was 15-1 after one quarter of play. 

Paredes nailed a 52 yard field goal just under six-minutes into the second quarter to extend the Stampeders lead to 18-1. 

P.J. Walker entered the game on the next Stampeders drive which ended in another Paredes field-goal, this time from 22 yards out, to make the score 21-1 heading into the break. 

Edmonton added a field goal to their score halfway through the third quarter as they hit from 40 yards out to make the score 21-4. 

The Stamps countered with a 32 yard field-goal of their own, following a 38 yard pass from Walker to Cam Echols, making it 24-4 with 4:29 remaining in the third-quarter. 

Marloshawn Franklin Jr. forced a fumble recovered by Anthony Johnson Jr. late in the third quarter to give the Stamps the ball at the Calgary 50 yard-line. The drive would end in a punt as the game entered the fourth quarter.

After a 27 yard punt return by Terrell Vaughn got the Stampeders to the Edmonton 35 yard-line, Walker found Daylen Baldwin for a 13 yard strike through the air to make the final score 31-4.
