The boxscore tells one story, the scoreboard another.
Bo Levi Mitchell and the offence put up over 500 yards of offence, but a trio of fumbles took its toll on the team’s total score.
On a chilly night in Montreal, the Alouettes edged the Stampeders 21-17.
The game started with the Als traversing the field in short order, with Vernon Adams Jr. punching it in from a yard out. Calgary responded with a swift drive of their own, capped off by a 5-yard run from running back Don Jackson.
In the second quarter, both teams would add a field goal, but the Red & White were able to find paydirt. Mitchell connected with receiver Josh Huff on a 28-yard strike for his first of the season.
Calgary would go into the half with a 17-10 lead.
After a quick stop by the Alouettes defence to start the second half, returner Mario Alford found a seam and took the kick 85 yards to the endzone.
The score remained deadlocked at 17 – save for an Alouettes single – until the final play of the third quarter when Montreal kicker Boris Bede slammed a punt well into the endzone for a Rouge. Bede would add a field goal late in the fourth quarter to extend the Als lead to 21-17.
Calgary will be back in the friendly confines of McMahon Stadium next weekend when they face off with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday, October 11 at 7:30pm.
