Cunningham: Getting in on the return game

Today I had an opportunity in the return game and I had to make the best of it. I got to come out here and play with my brothers. I just tried to do what I could to help the team out and that’s it.

We’re prepared for every situation every week. You have to be ready for anything whether you’re on the practice squad, low on the depth chart or starting. You can become the number one guy really quick and that’s what happened today with Jock Sanders going down last game with an injury. That’s why I prepare as if I’m a starter every week.  I’m going to be prepared for everything — the return game, offence, heck I’d even be ready to go out on defence.

It feels awesome to come on a road trip and know that you’re being put in to a spot where they expect you to do a good job. Today I was able to say that I did my job.

It was a little different playing here at McMaster today. We had to create our own energy. Hamilton travels well wherever they go. They could be playing in anyone’s backyard and they’re going to have fans come out. It’s a great fan base here in Hamilton so they’re always going to be breathing down your neck. We had to bring our ‘A’ game. It was a bit hard to create our own energy but we got it done.

I’m glad we got the win. You want to be able to do your job and show the coaches that you can do your job better than they expect you to. That’s all I wanted to do.
