It’s a wrap for It’s A Snap

The countdown is on for the silver-anniversary edition of the It’s A Snap Ladies Only Football Seminar presented by Delta Lodge at Kananaskis.

Everyone can look ahead to the milestone in 2015 now that the 24th annual edition of the event is in the books. More than 300 women took part in It’s A Snap this year, which for the second year in a row was held over two evenings. On Wednesday, the 101 session for beginners was held at McMahon Stadium while the more advanced students took part in the 201 class on Thursday.

After registration, the participants on each night gathered in the Stamps locker room to listen to head coach and general manager John Hufnagel. This year, Coach Huff discussed the proposed rule changes for the CFL including the somewhat controversial possibility of coaches being allowed to throw a challenge flag on pass interference calls or non-calls.

Afterwards, the gathering was split up into three groups that alternated between chalk-talk sessions with the Stamps assistant coaches and an on-field series of drills led by players Drew Tate, Anthony Parker, Rob Cote, Jabari Arthur, Keenan MacDougall, Rob Maver and Corey Mace.

On Thursday, Mace and MacDougall developed an unusual and challenging drill that involved the students starting a play as a defensive lineman and finishing as a defensive back.

The evening ended with refreshments and conversation in the locker room. There was also a draw for great prizes from Delta Lodge at Kananaskis as well as a ride-along with a Calgary Police Service unit.

Thank you to all participants and we’ll see you again next year.
